I want to only view the photos from iCloud Photo Library, not to save them.

Hello.

I recently bought the entry-level MacBook Air 128GB and I'm started having issues with the memory. I have iCloud Photo Library set up across all my devices and I shoot a lot of photos on my iPhone. I purchased the 200GB iCloud so I store all of my photos there.

I found out that the Mac automatically downloads all the photos from the cloud (Yes, I have the optimization toggle on) and I really don't like that. The folder has about 30GB and I really don't find it necessary for the Mac to download all of it!

Is there any option of just viewing the photos/documents and not actually downloading them? I'm online 24/7 so I don't need them to be off-line.

Thank you:)

MACBOOK AIR (13-INCH, 2017), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Like, if I turned off the iCloud photo library on my Mac, will I be able to see new photos shot on my iPhone?

If you disable iCloud Photo Library, you will not be seeing the iCloud photos in Photos for Mac, but you can access them (in a limited way) on your iCloud web page. Open www.icloud.com and sign in with your iCloud AppleiD. Then launch the Photos.app on the web page. You will see all photos and videos and albums you are keeping in iCloud, and you can selectively download photos to your Mac from there.

In your Mac , open photos application and it preferences > click on iCloud and uncheck the box of iCloud photo library .

The photos will not download in your Mac from iCloud account server , but you can still use the iOS for shooting photos .

Note : both devices will be online but you can prevent downloading of photos in Mac .
