This discussion may help ios 11.4.1 WiFi issue

From what I’ve read and previously experienced you could try “Forget this Network” under your WiFi Settings then reconnect again, “Resetting Network Settings”, reboot both your iPhone and your Router and last try the other wireless section if dual band.

With respect to the bands, if you usually use 5Ghz then try 2.4Ghz, but also try turning 5Ghz completely off as well, in others words you turn a dual band into a one band unit.

ps. It appears the latest iOS 11.4.1 has introduced this issue for some and will probably require Apple to fix in a future update, so above are just temporary “work around”.

I've had this fixed for me. Spoke to technical team. they said the wifi network needs resetting by forgetting it and then re joining it.

They told me to go to settings/ general/ reset. The phone starts up. settings/ wi-fi/ touch the "i" in a circle/ forget This Network/ then back to wi-fi/ sign back into your network. That's it, all working again.

Let me know how it goes for you. Mine seems to be working perfectly again.

Hi all,

The problem is a conflict with dual band wifi hubs. I have a simple fix for Virgin Media users. On the bottom of your hub is an IP address, type that into your browser. It'll then ask for the password which is also on the bottom of your hub.

You can then click on WiFi Wireless Settings and simple disable one of the wireless bands. Your hub is now a single band - this fixed the problem for me!!

Actually it isn’t a problem with “dual band Virgin Media hubs” per se, it is a problem with the older SuperHub 2, something to do with a conflict in a chipset with iOS11.4.1 and some other older routers as well apparently.

Virgin recently sent me a SuperHub 3, which is also dual band, and since installing that I have had no problems with WiFi dropping out.

I have also spoken with Apple Support and they say that the WiFi issue with the older routers will be fixed in IOS12 and that is being beta tested at the moment and so far so good 🙂

Hate to break it to you, but this is not a Virgin Media issue, it’s an Apple iOS issue. I have a DLINK router, which I have been running for years without any problems, and have the exact same problem with this iOS update. No amount of router replacement, resetting, Apple disassembly of your phone, etc. is going to fix a software issue. Virgin Media may have a separate issue with their routers as well, but it is outside of this particular issue. At another site, someone has already reported Apple acknowledging the problem on their end, with a fix not expected to be delivered until the version 12 release. So do not get your hopes up......sorry. 😢

Well Ryzon I have news. The new router arrived today and for the last 90 minutes (since I set it up) I have had super fast and uninterrupted wi-fi. So my friend, you are wrong. In the last five weeks I have been unable to access my home wi go for more than 5 minutes at a time, so this is like heaven to me. The issue is with the update, you are correct, but it is the compatibility with some of the older Virgin Media routers. This is what Virgin tell me and the proof is in me being able to type this reply and post it.

Yes, sorry I missed that instruction.

You don't lose anything from your phone, it takes about 4 mins to get your phone back to working.

Agreed, Wendy, all reasonable potential workarounds are worth exploring, but people need to be aware that anything that appears to “fix” the problem is likely just a temporary workaround that doesn’t address the root. Regarding repair, there is no repair that could possibly be done other than to install a copy of the OS were the problem has been fixed either a fixed verion 11.4.1 (which does not seem to exist yet) or reversion back to a previously working version, such as 11.4. This is definitely not a hardware issue.

Aug 16, 2018 10:40 AM in response to wendy_is

Being a system engineer, who uses a completely different router and is not a Virgin customer, I am experiencing the same issues, and can say with nearly complete and absolute certainty that this is not a router or chip issue. It is a software issue that Apple introduced, and is likely either a TCP/IP protocol handling issue (on Apple’s side) or a situation where the Apple devices are taking incorrect or erroneous action, possibly in response to various events. Regardless the cause, this is solely an Apple issue. You may get lucky in finding a router where the symptoms are somewhat masked, but the root issue will not have been addressed, as only Apple can address the root cause in their code. And yes, I am terribly frustrated regarding Apple’s lack of response in both acknowledging and addressing this issue. We should not have to wait for version 12 to be released. There should be an 11.4.2 or 11.4.1.1 patch to address this, as WiFi connectivity is core functionally of these devices. Likewise, Apple needs to start acknowledging mistakes and taking ownership. People should not be put in a position where they are replacing network hardware in the hope of addressing a separate device’s software introduced issues. Apple also needs to do more thorough testing of core functionality before patches and major releases are rolled out the door. And they also need to allow people more time to roll back to a prior uncorrupted version of the OS. If my company operated in this fashion, we would be out of business rather quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Apple devices, and have a bunch of them, but I want to keep loving them, so Apple, if you are at all listening, get your act together and start treating your loyal customers properly and with respect, because this is unacceptable.

They sent me links:

Ein Backup eines iPhone, iPad oder iPod touch erstellen - Apple Support

Informationen zu Backups für iOS Geräte - Apple Support

iPhone, iPad oder iPod auf die Werkseinstellungen zurücksetzen - Apple Support

Das iPhone, iPad oder den iPod touch aus einem Backup wiederherstellen - Apple Support

They are in German, but maybe helpful.

As I didn`t yet read it completely, I try to remember what they said:

First make sure you have a backup of your important data, ICloud.

Then put your IPhone back to the roots, i.e. back to installation they produced it. It will be without IOS then - they said at least.

Then reinstall an IOS by ITunes, using a list you find in the internet, IPSP (IPhone Software).

You can install an earlier version, I think 10.3 or so, even if the page gets you a warning. They said, you can install anyway, just because Apple does not recommend you to downgrade (safety), but it´s not dangerous to your phone - they said...

After you can reinstall your backup.

That´s what they tried to recommend me - I won´t do it now, because I know they simply cannot afford a community in anger! I can wait a bit until they fix the problems, I hope at least...

But you can try to find those pages in English or you can read them as they are, maybe they are helpful.

Good luck!

I know some people won't want to do this, BUT I signed up for Beta and upgraded to IOS 12. Which is pretty awesome! I like the new features, but anyways, my wifi is working like a charm now. 🙂 I also talked with Apple yesterday, which told me I had a hardware issue and I needed to get a new phone. Sorry but that's a lie, Don't fall into their gimmicks to talk you into buying a new phone..you don't need one, Beta versions are safe, these have already been tested by developers and are basically offered to people to try and give feedback as to which features will get used and which won't. Its also a good idea if you have suggestions on what you would like to see in the next software issue. HIGHLY recommend!

Check it out here!

Could you possibly test one thing when you get a chance? Try to run some types of apps that makes heavy interacive use of the router over a period of time, such interactive games that need to frequently poll their servers. The reason I am asking is because some people, myself included, are not experiencing complete disconnection, but rather experiencing dropouts and delays during certain app execution. Some apps I notice causing me problems are Zynga poker and Golf Clash as examples. Some people have also had problems with the Apple Store timing out, myself included. Things like email and such are not an issue for me, because the transmisssions are conducted in bursts, whereas something like Zynga has to interact with the server continually to constantly keep track of game status as hands are played. You may also not have your router very heavily loaded, which could also be a factor. It would be interesting to see if others with such a router upgrade see all their issues addressed. Pretty sure I have seen others in this thread and elsewhere see a temporary resolution, only to have the issue(s) return. :-/
