Cannot auto-accept Airdrop between my own devices

After recovering from a time machine backup I was not able to use Airdrop between my MacBook Pro and iDevices. I signed out and in my iCloud account, rebooted and was able to use Airdrop again except one little annoyance: it keeps asking me to accept/decline the file when Airdropping between macOS and iOS although they are signed in to the same iCloud account. There is no such issue between my iPhone and iPad and before the recover.

My mac is running 10.12.6 Sierra and my iPhone and iPad are running iOS 11.4.1. I hope there is a fix to this.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

When I use Airdrop between my two macs, or between one mac and my iPhone , I am NOT asked to accept, on either direction. They are all logged in to my iCloud account.

I am running High Sierra. Maybe that is the difference. I can't recall if it was the same when I had Sierra.

My Airdrop has always just delivered the file automatically between my Mac laptop and my iPhone... until yesterday when I updated my iOS to 11.4.1. This is why I put off updating OS's!

Out of curiosity: I have always had to "accept" the file no matter which Mac or iDevice we've tried here, so I am wondering how you were able to do it without. Am also on Sierra and the latest iOS.

Ahh, the light just went on: I am NOT logged into iCloud - ever. That must be it. I do have an account, but it is not associated with my "all things Apple" Apple ID and I only access it to check for spam emails about once a month via a browser. There is no syncing of any kind enabled either as I do not care to store anything personal online.
