Unable to drag and drop video/mp3 files into device inside iTunes?

I've got 'Manually manage music and videos' option checked, and I've been doing it since forever. But a few updates back I realized I could no longer do so even if I did not change any of my settings.

Has anything changed that I should know of? So far I can't drag and drop any media files into my iPhone 6s and iPad Pro in iTunes. Always have to do it the roundabout way of adding the files into the library before 'loading' it into the device - it's really annoying.

OS: MS Windows 10.0.17134 Build 17134

iTunes Version: 12.8.0.150

Devices: iPhone 6s+ and iPad Pro 12.9

The roundabout way of adding to the library first, and then adding content that is in the library to the device, is the way it is supposed to work. I've no idea why direct from Explorer/Finder was ever introduced, or if it was done so accidentally for media when 12.7 came along and it was added as a way to copy apps, books, and tones.

I'd always recommend you Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB - Apple Support. It needs just a little effort to set things up, then you can manage your playlists whenever it is convenient, and a sync will update the content on the device. Much easier to restore the device as and when needed too.
