iphone 6 Wifi issues

Hi all,

I've been experiencing wifi related issues with my iPhone 6 since new.

After trying all the suggested fixes ti no avail. The problem seem to be related to the antenna.

I say this because if I sit alongside my wireless router I can connect to the network without issues.

However, as soon as I move away (literally a matter of 5-6 feet) the signal drops and the connection is lost.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix?

Sincerely Adrian

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Triggerhappy!

I understand you're experiencing an issue when connecting to Wi-Fi, where the connection will drop if you move a few feet away from it. I'd be happy to provide information that may help you resolve this issue.

Have a look at this article: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network

Make sure that your router is on and you're within range

If you're too far from your router, you can't get a signal, so make sure that you're within range.

Make sure that Wi-Fi is on and you can see your network

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure that Wi-Fi is on. Tap the name of your Wi-Fi network to join. A blue checkmark beside a network name means that you're connected.

If you see Auto Join Disabled under your Wi-Fi network name, tap and turn on Auto-Join.

If asked, enter your Wi-Fi password

If asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Get help if you don’t know your password.

Even if you enter the correct password, you might see an "unable to join the network" message or an "incorrect password" message. Restart all of your devices, then try to enter your password again.

Check for issues with your Wi-Fi network

If iOS detects an issue with your Wi-Fi connection, you might see a Wi-Fi recommendation under the name of the Wi-Fi network that you're connected to. For example, you might see the alert "No Internet Connection." To get more information, tap the Wi-Fi network.

Check your cables and connections

If you still can’t connect to your network or get online, make sure that your router is connected to the modem and turned on.

Restart

Try restarting your iOS device, router, and cable or DSL modem. To restart your router or modem, unplug it, then plug it back in.

After you restart each device, see if you fixed the issue.

Still can’t connect?

Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

Get more help

  • If someone else set up your network, ask them for help. If you’re using a network at a company, school, hotel, store, or other free Wi-Fi location, find an employee for assistance.
  • If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can’t get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
  • Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If your device can’t connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
  • Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure that the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the router's manufacturer.

If you're still experiencing issues after attempting these steps, please reach out to Apple Support for further assistance.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great week ahead!

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I've tried all the suggestions to no avail. The phone will only connect when I'm with more or less 5' of the router. I have no wireless issues with my other devices 'Macboook Air' and iPhone 5c. The issue seems to be related to the internal antenna of the iPhone 6. This is well documented online. In addition the bluetooth has an incredibly short range too, certainly in contrast to my iPhone 5c.

To be honest I feel let down by Apple, whom in the past have been quick to resolve issues with their devices but more recently have been dogged with cited/proven accusations of deliberately slowing down older devices. Arguing battery life. I am therefore extremely sceptical of Apples business policies being less than customer service driven and more sales driven.

It would be great to see Apple take a stand to resolve issues rather than 'fobbing off' the customer. Remember the greyed out wifi on the iPhone 4s?

My iPhone 5c works flawlessly as I avoid all software updates. As I said I'm extremely sceptical these days and would happily switch brands if I wasn't a longtime Mac user (Since PowerPc's)
