Used activation locked iPhone.
So, I bought an activation locked iPhone 7 from a police auction a few days ago and wanted to know if Apple would unlocked this device based on the receipt from this auction?
iPhone 7, iOS 11

If you purchased the device online, whether it was from some company calling themselves the "Online Police Auction" or "Aunt Fanny's Attic Finds", you will not be able to get Apple to remove the Activation Lock. Only the original owner with the original Apple Sales Receipt can use that method for getting the Lock removed by Apple.
If you can't get your money back from the "Online Police Auction" people, then you are stuck.
Sorry,

Most definitely not. Apple will not undo Activation Lock to someone who is not the original purchaser who has the original receipt from the Apple Store.
Hope this helps,

So I wanted to update this for anybody having this same issue. Sorry I came back so late. I had my phone ICLOUD UNLOCKED directly by Apple, who were so helpful and accommodating. The only requisites for unlock is that you provide the receipt (which can be from an online auction) which includes the Serial/IMEI of the phone, your full name as the customer that purchased and the purchase has to be within 2 weeks of the unlock request.
Don't take these online support helpers too seriously, go directly to Apple for help. The apple in my local mall were awesome and not accusatory like these know it alls.
Hope this helps!
No, sorry, they won't. Only the person who put the Activation Lock on the device, or someone who knows that person's Apple ID and password can remove the Lock. There is no way around this.
Sorry,

So, again for anybody needing this kind of help...Apple's own words "they unlock for 3rd party seller receipts", but with the above mentioned required conditions and your ID. Please seek help from Apple first!
Probably not, and unless you're able to prove you got it from the police, definitely not.

Well, the Online police auction delivered the phone with the receipt, so is that not proof?
Take it down a notch Gail! I'll go to "Apple" in the morning and show them the receipt """Police" auction, and get a second opinion, that is unless you're Steve Jobs????
Enjoy your trip. Believe what you want to believe.
Best of luck,
GB
Your situation of buying it at a police auction (not from eBay or other sources) is very different from most people who come here with Activation Lock questions. You are overgeneralizing.
