I recorded my daughter's play with my iphone 8 ringer off because I didn't want to disturb the production. I went to play the video and there is no sound, even with ringer/silence button back into normal position.
Can I retrieve the sound? Or did it just not record? How can we record public events quietly with no ringer or not?

I'm not the most informed when it comes to Apple, but I've had speaker/microphone problems in the past. I just also wanted to inform you that the ringer/silence button doesn't affect the sounds of media from your iPhone. You might have accidentally covered your microphone on your iPhone with your finger or apart of your case while recording. If that wasn't the issue, then you may have damage to your speakers and/or microphone. Dirt may have gotten into the microphone and made it unable to pick up sound while recording. If that is the case, then you might want to take it into your closest Genius Bar. (They're very helpful!) You can set up an appointment or send it in here, Repair - Official Apple Support.
