Possible fix for US holiday calendar?

Will the US holiday calendar be fixed in the future? If not, then is it possible to edit or unsubscribe from it (generally you are unable to unsubscribe)?

First, I have seen a few posts on this subject. However , I do not want this post to follow similar discussions regarding personal views on religion or global issues as I realy do not have an opinion on anything like that.

The Apple US holiday calendar shows too many non-US holidays. (AGAIN, I DO NOT care about the personal stances) I simply just want to see Federally (U.S.) recognized holidays so I know when government offices are closed. The calendar is called “U.S. holiday” calendar and I just want ‘U.S./Federal’ recognized holidays; I understand the desire for including various religious and other holidays.

Yes, I know I can subscribe to other calendars, so please do not reply if that is your comment; I would like to rely on Apple’s itself because of reliability/problems with other calendars.

Alternatively, I want to know if I could edit the calendar or, PREFERABLY NOT, unsubscribe from the calendar entirely; unsubscibing is my last choice for many reasons.

Is Apple going to fix the calendar in the future or is there a different alternative than what I have mentioned?

I already posted how you can unsubscribe from Apple's. If you ran into a whole bunch of other problems clicking on a box that you have much more serious problems with your system than Apple's US Holidays calendar. You click the box it unchecks it and the holidays disappear from your calendar. It won't affect administration, file management systems or any other software. And as I said if you are unable to unsubscribe by checking on a box you either need to hire someone to show you how to do it or get your Mac checked out at the Apple Store.

Your ideal solution would require changing the standard for subscription calendars. Apple cannot do that. If you go to Windows and subscribe to calendars it will work the exact same way. It is an all or nothing proposition, you get no choice in which ones to select/reject.

The reality of what? That you did not understand the question as asked, answered, received a further clarification of the question, then did not answer the question and just create an argument.

As for reading the manual... I have read the manuals, which do not specifically address my issue. MOREOVER, I did more research to try and resolve the issue. Please see the attached link (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202361), scroll down the page and you will see a symbol (*) called an asterisk, which is an important note.

That is why I am trying to find a ‘fix’ to my U.S. holiday calendar problem. Thanks.

Unsubscribe from a calendar subscription

  • On macOS, open Calendar. Right-click the calendar that you want to unsubscribe from*, and select Unsubscribe.
  • On iOS, open Calendar. Tap Calendars > User uploaded file > Delete Calendar.

* You can't unsubscribe from the US Holidays calendar.

On my iPhone, when I open the calendar and then press ‘calendar’ at the bottom, then uncheck US Holidays calendar, it removes all references to any and all events that come with that calendar. It does not affect my personal entries. It sort of “unsubscribed” me from the calendar. That is the only way I know to “fix” not having extra entries on the calendar.

I can post a screenshot if you want but all you have to do is click on the box next to it and it unsubscribes.

Only the person who published the calendar can edit it; for US Holidays from Apple that would be Apple. If you create/publish your own calendar you can edit it to your heart's content. You can't edit a calendar I publish and you subscribe to.

You also have the option of (1) Entering the holidays you want into the calendar each year (I am assuming you do not way Easter on your calendar, correct?) or (2) there are calendar apps available that will place various holidays you select on your calendar and let you automate this process. These are not subscription calendars, they are apps.

Unsubscribing from that calendar just means unticking the box and it will no longer appear. Can you explain how this will do anything to your admin system? There are literally hundreds of thousands of subscription calendars, find one that has the holidays you prefer and subscribe to it. Problem solved.

I'm sure that Tim Cook is quite aware of the issues with their US Holidays subscription calendar since it started with Easter being left out. He and the senior executives don't come here, lottery or not, you have to use the feedback link. You won't get a response. Lots of workarounds have already been provided. Perhaps if you explain what your admin issue is someone can provide a more complete workaround. I wish Apple would rename that calendar to something like US Events since it has April Fools Day, Daylight Savings and Tax Day (and has for some time for some of these). But it is just a plain subscription calendar conforming to the standards of any subscription calendar. Apple cannot change the standard on their own.

There is no response from the Feedback app, it says that when you submit it. As an attorney I would think you would understand that.

While the terms may differ as I have already shown you, with the screen shot that you asked for, if you uncheck the box next to US Holidays it will turn off the sync, will remove ALL events included from that published calendar from your calendar (or your clients or whoever this is for). You won't see all those other holidays that you don't want to see, PROBLEM SOLVED. Leaving it on the computer/phone will not hurt anything and will not affect any administrative tasks, etc. Any software you are using that uses the Apple calendar will just not see those holidays anymore.

You couldn't tell you were a nice guy from reading mosts of your posts here. You sound more like a troll. You can't roll back the OS on any iDevices, it is not supported. Rolling back your macOS will accomplish exactly nothing. It will not change the Apple US Holidays subscription calendar, if you have it turned on it will sync the same events that you currently have.

I you must leave it turned on because of past events than just ignore the other holidays that don't concern you. Is that so hard for you? Probably is.

Thank you for the reply Ralph,

I apologize if I posted in the wrong forum, but I was just following the submit a question field from what I thought was the most relevant support article I was looking at (“

HT202361: iCloud: About subscribed calendars”). I don’t even know where I am listed (“iChat”?); I can resubmit. Do you have a recommendation? My question relates to calendar across many devices (iPhone, MacBook, etc.). I don’t really use the iCloud web portal (www.icloud.com) to check anything.

Thank you for any help/guidance.

Unsubscribing is just my last option, I can do it, but I prefer to pull a tooth out.

It is hard to weigh living with it and subscribing to a new one. What weighs against subscribing to a new one is that I can not unsubscribe from the default Apple calendar. (This will really cause configuration problems with my admin system). Maybe I’ll win the Apple lottery and Tim Cook will see this problem.

Thank you for the input and hopefully there is a work around.
