New MacBook Pro - Frequent Disconnect of Magic Mouse 1

Hello,

I recently switched from a MacBook Pro Mid 2015 to the 2018 model (for cpu speed and more memory) and I am using my old magic mouse V1.

In the past, I experienced the common battery connection issues when setting down the mouse too hard.

But now, I see very frequent disconnects of the mouse even when the mouse is not moved/in hand and also sometimes the cursor gets stuck and only will move a few pixel. The first problem is resolved by clicking once and the latter only by switching the mouse off and on. Very frequent means, it happened twice while typing this *g*.

Since both old and new MacbBook are using the same version of High Sierra, I assume this is related to the new hardware. Are there any known issues with the new MacBook Pros?

One difference though: the new Mac is only connected via WLAN while the old one was using ethernet.

Any help is appreciated. This is really annoying.

Andreas

P.S. tried to reset bluetooth already. No change.

Same problem on 2018 13" MacBook pro. Handoff mode never activated, bluetooth Debug multiple times - still same issue. Have tried multiple usb-c docks and read they interfere. Only have power plugged in now. It's better, but still same magic mouse V1 disconnect issues. Not happy with my $3500 laptop. I'M NOT BUYING ANOTHER MAGIC MOUSE IF IT DOESN'T COME WITH A USB-C CORD. Apple get your @#$% together!!!!!

Same issues going from 2015 13" rMBP to 2018 13" MBP. Using space grey wireless keyboard with numpad along with space grey trackpad 2.0. Disocnnects every few minutes and hold keys or mouse commands I was in the middle of pressing.

Have reset everything there is to reset, spent 2 hours with a genius at the bar in an apple store, diagnostics came back clean and they sent me on my way.

This was a non-issue with my 2015, they worked perfectly. This problem DOES disappear when I turn off wifi, as I know they both use the same antenna.

Why does my new $4,000 computer suck compared to my 2015??

I was going to wait a few more days before I posted my update, but since you are seeing the same thing, I'll comment. I have read the same things about wifi interference, but we only have 2.4 here at the office. I changed the wifi channel a few days ago and it substantially improved the situation. My magic mouse only messes up a few times a day instead of every 5 minutes or so. I would definitely go with 5ghz if you can, but if you are "stuck" with 2.4 like I am, try selecting different channels. I think it will help. Never had a problem with my Air, but this expensive replacement has been a headache........

I just wanted to clock in to sincerely tell you Apple: this is some utter bullsh@@@@t!. Get your gear working.

I have a new 15" MBP 2018 six core 32tb Ram computer and my MMv1 just keeps dropping out few times in a minute. Makes me crazy. done all the basic debugging. The fact that I switched from wlan to using just ethernet hasn't changed a thing for me. Well designed and well coded - keeps your customers happy or what.

I was having the same issues with my blue tooth mouse disconnecting and lagging on my new Macbook Pro 2018. I went ahead and bought a new V2 bluetooth mouse and this seemed to fix the situation as well, but still occurs but more rarely now and lasts seconds as opposed to being completely stuck. I am now experiencing this happening more frequently happening to my old bluetooth keyboard now. What is the deal APPLE, my older mouse and keyboard worked fine on the 2015 Macbook Pros. Is this a ploy to get new Macbook Pro users to buy more new items for no reason?? Sure feels like it...and $80 for a mouse??? rediculous....very disappointed with all these annoying issues I have been having after purchasing my new MacBook. I have been a long time Apple user, but I am seriously rethinking the quality of apple products now...

Thanks for the tip.

With a USB-C/ USB 3.0 hub connected to my new 2018 MBP, Apple bluetooth keyboard & track pad kept disconnecting briefly every minute or two. I've had promising early results after connecting to 5 GHz wifi network: bluetooth connections have remained stable for a few hours so far. Each time I've connected back to 2.4 GHz wifi, bluetooth goes unstable again.

Fortunately I have this work-around solution available in my office. But very disappointed with Apple that I need a work-around.

Hoping there has been some movement on this, very disappointed in my apple hardware.

I am still having bluetooth disconnect issues the 2018 Magic Mouse (no joke, it happened reading this thread!) - I am using the newest model of the MacBook Pro 2018.

From what I understand of this thread, either of the following factors (of which I have both) might be contributing to this problem:

LG UltraFine 5K Monitor

2.4 GHz WiFi Connection

I have a 2018-era LG Monitor, which *supposedly* shouldn't cause problems based on this thread:

https://9to5mac.com/2017/02/03/lg-fixes-wifi-interference-problems-with-ultrafine-usb-c-5k-display-new-units-unaffected/

With regards to the 2.4GHz WiFi, my home has 5GHz, but the 2.4 HGz is part of the modem and there is no way to turn it off. This is also true for the other major WiFi provider in my area, so there is no way around this, not to mention some of my other hardware in-house does not work on 5GHz.

I am at the point where I would happily give back my Magic Mouse and take and ugly corded one that actually works. I am a designer so I can't take these intermittent disconnect issues that happen while production is happening, it's far too disruptive.

Double (now tripple) crossing my fingers that someone from Apple is reading this thread and can push out an OS update that will fix their (very expensive) hardware. Between the maxed-out MBPro, LG5K, and 2018 Apple Peripherals, I've spent in the 8K range on this setup and I am extremely irritated that something as simple as a mouse doesn't work.

I just started having this issue. on a 2015 Macbook Pro, so it's not due to the 2018 as some have experienced. I've debugged, reset, and all the other tips on this and other forums. Issue happens with my mouse at work and mouse at home. Connected to wi-fi and without wi-fi. And not having issue with bluetooth trackpad - it doesn't drop like the mouse. Not sure what to do next - I like using a mouse...and spending $80 for the new one is looking like my next step...but that's an expensive next step with no guarantee of solution...hoping someone can help.

Hello I have the same scenario, I moved to a 2018 Mac Book Pro 15"

I have 3 different mouses that I use based on location. Work, home, travel.

All 3 worked problem free with my previous MacBook Pros but lose connection

or freeze with the new MacBook Pro.

Is there a solution for the bluetooth connection problem with the 2018 MacBook Pro hardware.

Unfortunately I also got to report the very same thing, which is why I'm posting this (my first post on the Apple Forum). Updated from a Late 2013 MacBook Pro. V1 Magic Mouse and the smaller Keyboard working like a charm on my old laptop and various other devices. Now got a brand new top spec MacBook pro 2018, with constant disconnects. It also disconnects the keyboard frequently, despite doing all the factory resets and debugging.

Decided to output my music via bluetooth to my bluetooth speakers to see if it was a general bluetooth connection problem. Negative - music's playing without a single interruption, whilst mouse and keyboard lag and disconnect. Especially the mouse is a problem - like other designer colleagues on here, it makes daily work absolutely unbearable.

As it's a hardware problem Apple ought to give us replacements for these V1 mice if their V2 versions work better. It's not acceptable having to throw hardware away like that; I only got another V1 mouse recently as I prefer longer-life batteries to having to charge the mouse, and also prefer the heavier feeling due to the batteries. This is not a way to go for $4000 machines. How can we make sure Apple does something about this?

As it's a hardware problem

No, it's NOT a Hardware problem. In general, it's an environment problem.

This already three pages posting is no longer suitable for debugging individual problems, but is a wealth of background information on the subject in general. Be sure you have read all the way through it.

If you would like to debug exactly your situation, create a new posting with a catchy title and include all your pertinent information:

exactly which Mac

exactly which MacOS

exactly which devices are giving you issues
