Credentials not saving/constant logging out after latest security update

I'm running OS X Sierra 10.12.6 and installed security updates 2018-003/4 last night. Since then, every time I quit Chrome it logs out, forcing me to log back in to Chrome and everything else (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) every time I restart. Also, Outlook has been asking me for my password repeatedly. And my GitHub credentials are not caching, requiring me to enter username and password every time I push to GitHub.

I've tried deleting my Chrome profile and reinstalling Chrome running and setting up the credential helper on git (

git config --global credential.helper osxkeychain) with no luck. Problem appears to be something with OS X not individual software.

Finally, this is a work computer with some antivirus software (System Center Endpoint Protection) and possibly some other stuff installed, which could be playing a role.

Being a work computer, you may not be able to try everything.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. Is JAMF and ESET your idea, or the company you work for?

If it is your idea, I suggest you uninstall ESET. macOS does not need 3rd party anti-virus. And generally, they interfere with the normal operation of macOS or worse cause problems by blocking network connections or quarantining essential files all in the search for viruses that exist on Windows but not the Mac (since there are no self-propagating viruses for the Mac, or at least as of today).

If uninstalling ESET does not clean things up, then try uninstalling JAMF (I do not expect JAMF to be a cause, as it tends to be just a way for remote management, but it can stick its fingers into your Mac).

You might try booting into Safe mode and see if things behave themselves. This is another useful way to figure out if 3rd party software in interfering with your Macs normal operation.

<http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564>

This will not load any 3rd party additions, it will load some more conservative Apple drivers (may cause screen flicker), and it will clear some kernel caches (a cache is saved data in a form that can speed up a program, but is totally redundant to the original source, and thus can be safely cleared). Booting into Safe mode is just an experiment, but can frequently eliminate any 3rd party interference, or a cached item out-of-sync with the world. (Verify Safe mode via Applications -> Utilities -> System Information -> Software -> Boot Mode -> Safe vs Normal)

Aug 6, 2018 8:02 AM in response to mstrimas

Then I suggest you file a bug with your IT group.

The problem with a lot of these intrusive 3rd party packages is that they used undocumented interfaces, and when Apple makes an update that changes these undocumented interfaces, the 3rd party package breaks.

So you need to have your IT group insisting on these packages to fix it as it is interfering with your ability to make money for the company.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the response! I don't appear to be able to start in safe mode at all on this computer and creating a new admin account didn't help. However, this problem seems to have mostly fixed itself. There are a couple strange behaviors still persistent, for example, I can't log into my work Box account because it logs in then immediately logs out, but most other sites (e.g. gmail) work. I suppose I can live with the remaining issues for now, but here's my Etrecheck report in case there's anything obvious here that could be causing the issue. Thanks again!

Unfortunately, those are both installed by my work and mandatory, so I'm stuck with them. Seems likely these could be the issue although they never caused issues until the recent security update.

They must also be doing something to prevent me from starting in Safe Mode because I'm not able to do it using either the "hold down shift" method or via the Terminal.
