Why is Adobe Acrobat Updater in my dock?

About a week ago, I noticed on my dock an Adobe Acrobat Updater app. On my screen it says "An Adobe Acrobat update is available that required your permisiion to install. Click Continue when you are ready to apply this update.

Here's a pictureUser uploaded fileI don't know if this is spam or malware but I went to the Adobe site, as always recommended, and I haven't seen this. I did see some people asking questions about this and they're concerned it may be malware. Also the dot next to the app on my dock is always on the Adobe app. I do have Adobe Acrobat Reader App which looks similar to this in my apps but not on my dock. What should I do, hit continue or just leave it. I can't seem to get it off of my MAC OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi macjack, I tried to download Malwarebytes and it would come up on my screen then in the dock Installer would keep trying to open but Malwarebytes just wouldn't run. I did have it in the past (the free version for mac) and I'm not sure if that's why it won't install. Any other info you may have would be helpful. I checked my Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and it's all up to date. When you said it is the logo do you mean it's safe to use or not? In addition I have another issue User uploaded fileThis has been popping up for days and when I go and put my correct password it takes me to System Preferences, iCloud and when I do enter my correct password it never accepts it. If you have an knowledge about this I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi Eric, in Applications I don't have any Adobe Updater, I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro,Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.app, Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 and Adobe Media Player.app. However when I go to Finder and type in Adobe Updater these are the pictures that come up: I'm not sure if you can see the top picture but it has 2 Adobe Updater from 2010, the 1st is a white icon with grey triangles around edges(?) and is listed as an application, the 2nd is a folder that says Adobe Updater 6. I am really sorry if I'm bothering you but I have not idea what to do or delete. Also I still get the popup from my last message to you, 8/13 where my only option is to hit Continue & I'm afraid to do that. Do you think I should delete the Adobe Updater.app from 4/13/10. BTW, Adobe Updater App is also in Utilities. I will not bother you anymore with this but if you let me know I can safely delete it then I will. Thank you. UGH! I don't even want adobe but this was given to me with all apps already on and I have no idea about them. I don't use them. Also do you know if I need Adobe Flash and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, if not I'll delete them. I don't use them. Enjoy the weekend.

That doesn't look like the Adobe logo to me, it's probably malware. Can you click and hold and choose "Remove from Dock"? Also look in your Applications folder look for another Adobe Reader app and delete it.

If that doesn't work then run Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac. There's a free download you can use.

You are welcome. You aren't bothering me. I would move both Updaters to the Trash and leave them there for a while to test how the computer works. If you end up removing the other Adobe products, you can delete them.

If you don't use Adobe Flash, you can delete it. I haven't had it installed for several years. You can also uninstall all the Adobe products if you want. Go to the Adobe web site to find the uninstall instructions to make sure you completely remove them.

You might want to keep Acrobat Reader installed. There are a few instances where Reader is required instead of Preview.

If I missed answering something, post back.

I hope you have a good weekend also.
