Do Apple Music files work with iPod Nano’s?

I was thinking of getting an iPod Nano so I could free up a bit of space on my phone (I have 3.9 GB of music on my phone). And because I have Apple Music, the files that download to my laptop are in M4A format, which doesn’t play nice with any MP3 players other than iPhone‘s or iPads or whatever. So I was wondering if iPod Nano’s (preferably the latest model) can support Apple Music files, and if not, if there are any other devices that support the file type, or if there are any other ways I could play the music on another device without hassle. (I would like them stored locally to another device for personal reasons)

null-OTHER, Windows 10, iTunes 12.7.3.46

Apple Music can not be played on an iPod nano. In addition, the nano is no longer being sold by Apple, so the only way you would be able to buy one is secondhand. Therefore, there's no reason for you to buy a nano.

To play Apple Music, you would need an iPod Touch, the only iPod that Apple still sell. You also require internet access (which the iPod Touch has). Bear in mind that some features of Apple Music will not be available to you unless you have live internet access and that would only be when you have access to a Wi-Fi signal.

In reality, Apple Music is aimed at iPhone users, who have generous data packages on their phone.

I'm not an Apple Music user, but as far as I know, songs can be downloaded for offline use, providing your subscription is still valid.

Once you end your Apple Music subscription, the next Sync of the device would remove Apple Music from it. My guess (since I haven't found this specifically mentioned), is that the device would need to be synchronised every now and again so that the subscription status could be confirmed.

In addition to the iPod Touch, the Apple Watch can make use of Apple Music.
