Am trying to open a zip file someone has sent me. Using Archive Utility but I keep getting the message 'Operation not permitted'. I have been sent a password in a separate email, but do not know how to use it without first opening the file! Help, please...

I've installed Unarchiver but it's now asking me for an archive password. The password sent by the person who sent me the file does not work. What is an archive password and where would I find it? (also, Apple seem to have charged me for The Unarchiver but there is no indication of how much the charge was).
Well, totally weirdly, I tried the password the sender had given me and it didn't work, but when I roped in my son (who's doing a degree in Computer Science) and he did the exact same thing, it worked. Clearly he has the magic touch.
The Unarchiver is free. An archive password is the password to unlock the zip archive. If it doesn't work you were given the wrong password.

When you dbl-click the file it should ask for the password for you to type in. If not, it may be in a format your Mac doesn't understand or the file is corrupt. You can try installing The Unarchiver from the App Store and see if it can open it.
