Couldn’t Load An Asset + Photos app keeps importing same photos OVER AND OVER

Whenever I connect my iPad Pro to my MacPro, the Photos app imports the same photos again and again.

I import them every time since I'm worried about maybe losing them, but now I have so many of the same images, and there are countless images affected.

And lately I'm seeing error messages on import along the lines of "couldn't load an asset", with several files with a .peg extension, and 'file may be corrupt' or some such.

I've repaired the photo library on the Mac several times, but to no avail.

I recently upgraded my iCloud storage space and started sharing cross all devices (iPhone, MacPro and iPad Pro).

Since the iPad Pro is brand new and I upgraded my iCloud space, something there isn’t quite right, especially the annoying "couldn’t load an asset" warning.

Thanks for any help in advance

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 11.3.1

Do I understand you correctly? You are syncing the iPad Pro and iPhone and Mac using iCloud Photo Library, but get incomplete or multiple imports when trying to import using a USB connection?

Importing by a direct connection by USB is asking for trouble, if you are syncing the devices with iCloud Photo Library. Pick one horse and ride it, but do not mix the syncing methods.

The problem is, that syncing with iCloud Photo Library may replace the original image files or videos by optimized versions and many full size originals are not in the Camera Roll. If you are viewing your photos and videos you will be downloading new copies from iCloud. This is breaking the duplicate detection on Import. If you absolutely must import the most recent items by USB, because you have no internet connection, you have to manually omit potential duplicates or optimized, samller thumbnails and only import the most recent images and videos, where are sure, that they not yet have been imported by iCloud Photo Library.
