IPhone X Tap to wake isn’t working

i just recently started having a problem with my Tap to wake not working. I’ve had the phone since November and have had Tap to wake turned on. I’ve shut the phone off and turned it on. I’ve tried hitting the vol up and vol down and holding the lock button till it restarted and it still wont work. I’ve turned the tap to wake off and on while doing all these things. I’m currently using 11.4.1.

I started noticing the same issue on my iPhone X 2-3 months ago. First Tap to wake stopped working and then top edges became unresponsive. Went to local Apple store. They ran diagnostics that confirmed the issue and the solution was screen replacement. Phone was 53 days out of warranty but they still performed it under warranty.

Apple service is awesome 👏

Well that is something called ghost touch. My problem started also with tap to wake but then it started behave like on its own.

there are couple of way to try to fix that. First try hard reset but it prolly wont work.

Second, back up your Iphone and reset to factory settings and then restore your back up.

be advised remove your passcodes bc ghost touch will get worse and you wont be able turn on your phone at all.

The last solution is that apple changes IphoneX’s screens if it is bought within 3 years due to screen module replacement problem of the phone itself, so google it, fill out the form, get an appointment from nearest apple store and they ought to fix it free.

I have exactly the same problem. During my first visit to the Genius Bar, they tried a reset which only left me having to re-enter all my setup information. No effect on tap to wake. They indicated next step would be a full OS Reload and if that did not work, a screen replacement. I declined to proceed at that time as I needed to double check all pics backed up.

I decided to load iOS 12 Public Beta to seen if it fixed the issue. It did not, so returned to Genius Bar where they politely informed they do not support iOS 12 at this time. Having many more pics on the phone since previous visit, again wanted to double check backups before proceeding.

Now running full pic backup to PC and once that is finished will make another Genius Bar appointment when they will probably have to take phone for a screen replacement.

If that doesn’t work, then I guess they will have to replace phone with a new one.

Both my phone x and my wife’s are doing the same thing. I performed the GA version of 12.0 which was almost forced on me. It immediately disable wake to tap and will not work. Turn everything on and off. Multiple restarts. Just installed 12.0.1. No luck.

Apple you need to fix this. I don’t have time to reload my phone because you push a buggy iOS version. Please get this fixed. Not happy!!!

Took my iPhone X to Genius Bar because screen became unresponsive. They replaced screen and updated iOS to 12.0.1 from 11.4.1.

Now tap to wake doesn’t work AND no switch availability in Settings General Accessibility. Gone!

Back to using side power button to wake it up. If this is not another issue caused by screen replacement, then I wish Apple would quit screwing with the little things in iOS.

I'm having the same issue. My display was replaced last night and now tap to wake will stop working randomly. If I force reset it will come back. The toggle is missing from settings and the 3D touch toggle is missing too. I also couldn't search in settings until I found a fix (change the language of the phone to English UK, close settings ap, go back in and change to English US). Have you found and fix for the missing toggles?

I've had the same issue. I put off updating past iOS 12.0.1 until recently (maybe 2 weeks since I updated to 12.1.2). Just a few days ago, my tap to wake stopped working. This is unacceptable given there is no home button on the X. The only way to turn it on is to pick it up or press the side button. Apple, you are seriously making me, a die-hard Apple fan, reconsider Apple products. We want this fixed.

My touchscreen works. But when I "tap to wake" my iPhone Xs, nothing happens, maybe once every 3 or 4 times. Whenever I touch the screen a second time, it then wakes up normally.

In 60 to 70% of the cases, the phone wakes up normally on first touch.

But this is a hassle, as waking up a phone is something we do 100s of times a day. Never knowing whether it will work or not becomes cumbersome.
