Archiving Time Machine backup to a Synology NAS
Hi everyone
I have used Time Machine for years and have backups on an external USB drive. I've just installed a Synology NAS and I've successfully configured that to be the destination for Time Machine. The external USB drive is no longer needed to back up my Mac, but it is a bit of an archive which I would like to preserve, but on the Synology NAS (so I can re-use the USB drive!). Obviously I want to use a different shared folder on the NAS from the Time Machine backup folder so those don't get in each other's way.
I've tried to copy the contents of the USB drive to the NAS, but that doesn't work: I get an error message that the destination drive is the wrong format. Help! How do I configure the Synology folder so it can accept the Time Machine data?
Any help greatly appreciated!
