MacBook Pro 2018 lens cleaner residue

I've recently just purchased a 2018 MacBook Pro and I attempted to clean the screen using a lens cleaner that I've purchased from Rite Aid. It is a Rite Aid brand product. There seems to be a reissue on the screen that I can't remove. Everything I apply the lens cleaner, the residue is removed from the location of the screen but then it appears on another location on the screen. There seems to be some type of residue produced whenever I attempt to clean the screen of my MacBook Pro with the lens cleaner. Apple recommends water to clean the screen but I'm not sure if using water as the solvent at this point is going to be a definitive solution.

Do you think using distilled water would remove the residue left over from the Rite Aid lens cleaner would clean the screen?

Since Apple recommend against using any cleaner on their screen, I recommend you call your local Apple Store and have them examine to determine exactly how much damage you have done already.

Apple has coatings on their screen and it sounds like the lens cleaner reacted with it.

You can try it with distilled water and a moist clean cloth. But the residue will probably remain. Lens cleaner is not an appropriate cleaning agent for your screen.

No, what I was saying is that lens cleaner is not appropriate. Plain water on a slightly moistened cloth is recommended.

I would not recommend using anything harsh on the display. The Rite Aid cleaner might have been too harsh for the panel. Could you describe the residue on the display? Is it sticky? Is it visible?

The residue on the display isn't sticky. It's visible and oily. It could be removed if I use a microfiber cloth but I would have to wipe the area repeatedly with the microfiber cloth. I used the lens cleaner first, wiped the screen with a dry microfiber cloth, wiped the screen with water from the sink and then I wiped the screen with a dry cloth. The residue may be leftover from the lens cleaner or the sink water. Distilled water may have been a better option.

I'm not sure where I should go from this point.
