I want to upgrade my operating system, but my Macbook Pro says it is up-to-date. It has Version 10.7.5, and when I try to update the system, it says it need 10.8 or higher to upgrade. Can someone shed some light for me and help me with where I need to go or do?

i have same problem too. can't download the el capitan or sierra. it will say need to have latest OS 10.8 to download. mine is late 2011 model and should be able to upgrade but somehow it can't. please help.
You need to download El Capitan or Sierra. Note that some MacBook Pro models can’t be upgraded past Lion or El Capitan.
