add website to dock in High Sierra

I'm running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6 on a late 2013 iMac. I used to be able to put a website link from Safari into the dock on the right side. Now I'm using Safari version (version 11.1.2) and even though I select, click and drag the URL to the dock, the dock doesn't accept it. Any suggestions about how to get the link into the dock?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I was able to get it to the Dock by first dragging the web site to my Desktop to get an icon and then dragging the icon to the Dock. I couldn't drag the URL directly to the Dock.
