no sound out of bluetooth speakers on macbook pro 2018

I have a new macbook pro with OS Sierra. I have two ongoing problems with my sound:

1. when the mac will recognize my bluetooth speakers the sound will only stay smooth for about 15 minutes. After that it begins to stutter. I have to turn of the speakers and turn back on and start music again.

2. Today, there is no sound at all. It appears that the speakers are paired with the mac as it shows up in the list and it says bluetooth is on. But, no sound.

I've tried to re- pair the two several times - no luck.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hello janet1626,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you're experiencing some sound issues using Bluetooth speakers with your MacBook Pro. You've come to the right place for help.

Do you have a different device you could pair the Bluetooth speakers with, then test if you can replicate the stuttering or no sound? This will help us further isolate if it's a potential issue with the speakers or the MacBook Pro.

If you don't have another device you can pair the speakers with, or the sound issues do not occur when paired to another device, the next step would be to reset the SMC on your MacBook Pro:

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

The NVRAM stores certain settings for your MacBook Pro, including sound volume. Resetting your NVRAM could help as well:

Keep us posted with what happens from here.

Cheers!

Thank you for your suggestions. I paired the speakers to my iPhone and they work fine – no stuttering volume issue. It is only with the MacBook Pro that I have the problem. And it is consistent. It happens every time I’m using the speakers for more than 10 -15 minutes with the laptop. But never with the iPhone even after many hours.

In Googling the issue it appears others have had this problem since the new operating system – High Sierra – was implemented. I’m new to Mac so I can’t speak to that.

I read the articles you listed but don’t feel knowledgeable enough about taking these kinds of steps as I wouldn’t know how to fix any complications that might arise. After isolating the problem to the computer, are these still the steps you suggest I take? And, do you know if they have resolved this issue for others? Is there someone who can help me with these steps?

BTW, my OS is High Sierra, not Mavericks. Does that make a difference for what you recommend? Others have complained about this problem with regard to High Sierra, have any proven fixes been found? The thread I read said the issue was still unresolved.

Thanks so much for your help.
