Photos Project Extensions: Mimeo

I'm curious if anyone has made a Photos project with Mimeo. I just downloaded the app 2 days ago and began a photo book which I have almost completed. I was very pleased with the ease in transitioning to the new format and the options afforded by Mimeo. Problem is today, when I tried opening my project, it wouldn't and this popped up instead :

Project extension “Mimeo Photos” terminated unexpectedly.

I've tried restarting Photos and my computer. I don't really want to reinstall the app as my project is basically finished. I am running High Sierra 10.13.6 and Mimeo Version 2.0.3

Anybody else experience this yet?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Try this:

As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some Photos and, create a book and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Then open your current library and try again. Several users have noted that after creating a new library and working with it the next time the opened their original library the problem was fixed. A long shot but worth a try.

Hi gayleen7,

Exporting to a PDF from Photos in High Sierra is actually possible 2 different ways (:

The first way is to do the following:

1. Open the project you're wanting to generate a PDF of. (Where you see all of the pages in your project)

2. CTRL + CLICK (or right-click) in the background area.
3. Select "Save Book as PDF" from that menu to get your PDF

A second way we've found, which is extremely easy, is to hold OPTION and click the "Buy Now" button in the top right. An Export PDF dialog will automatically pop up!

We've also got these steps, alongside some screenshots to assist here: Photos Printing - PrestoPhoto

Hope that helps you at least get those PDF's you're needing!

I'm running Mimeo Photos version 2.0.6. I completed an almost 50-page photo book, checked it fairly thoroughly (with no reported problems), then attempted to "Buy", specifying "Add to Cart". I got the same error you did. This, in my opinion, is a consequence of primitive error reporting of the extension. I filed a report with customer support at Mimeo Photos and will report back if there is a fix. (Since this is an astonishing generic, non-helpful message, I expect there will be no fix they can suggest.) So far I am underwhelmed with all of the alternatives to Apple Print Services; some are clunky and marginally functional. I like Mimeo Photos the best, but it too is not yet robust enough to replace APS. I'm also peeved that there is no careful preflight checking that goes on, in the absence of a full PDF as Apple supplies.

Yes, I do. I noticed, however, that when I click on one of the ?missing? pics and allow the wheel that appears bottom right to finish turning, the pic will be recognised by an "updating your project" message. Tried that on a few pics with success, but now it $%^#^#$%#%& up my pics with large rectangular block of black or megapixels.

Oh my! Thanks for clarifying (:

I do remember seeing this issue pop up in these discussions a while back. I believe the red flag means that Photos can not locate the original images. I was able to find this discussion that goes over some solutions people were able to find to fix that: Missing or Invalid Photo Perhaps one of those would assist in getting those projects to be able to be exported properly again!

We do indeed suggest switching over to Apple Pages, as upgrading to MacOS Mojave makes Apple Photos basically obsolete (requiring you to use the 3rd party apps to create and store your projects, one again possible "trapping" your projects if those companies decide to jump ship, per say). Utilizing Apple Pages ensures that your files are always accessible on your computer, without worrying about them being unaccessible in the future.

Apple Pages also has awesome customization features, similar to what you would have seen with Aperture. Every aspect of your project is completely customizable, and our customers seem to love using the program!

If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out! I'm always here to give tips and pointers on designing (:

May I offer a suggestion at this point in time: create a new library for each book you create and purchase. The size will be small and will protect the book and Photos for it form accidental deletion further down the road. The library will be easy to backup to CD/DVDs or EHDs.

If you want to purchase another copy at a later date the library and book will be untouched and ready to go.

If you need to add Photos to an existing book library the paid version of PowerPhotos can copy albums between libraries including the metadata.

I created a phonebook project using the mimeo photos extension. I'm not losing anything and everything works, but when I have gone thru the "buy" process, when it starts uploading the photos, I get a message that the extension has "terminated unexpectedly." Mimeo says it is working on it, but I haven't heard anything yet. (Mimeo receives the order but not the photos - they've been good about refunding, etc.)

I don't have quite the same situation as you. I actually created a new phonebook under Mimeo Photos and all worked well until I went to buy. And then, things went fine until it started uploading the project. That is when I got the message that the extension was unexpectedly terminated. A got on the chat room and they said they were working on it. There also appeared on the project a message that certain photos weren't "reproducing" properly with the page numbers in the project. This means that they have the photos, etc. The chat room responded to an inquiry and told me that it should now work and I should start the process again. I will do this within the next day or two and let you know what happens.
