macbook pro 13" 2018 random freeze

I got my 2018 macbook pro 13" three weeks ago. The computer freeze at least twice. It requires hard reboot. Where should I start to look for fault? The system isn't under heavy load nor was it hot.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 4 TBT3), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Hi!

What version of macOS are you running? There were 2 supplemental updates released, specifically for 2018 MacBook Pros. The 2nd supplemental update helped my 15" 2018 MBP a ton.

You can check by opening System Preferences, then Software Update. Make sure there are no updates available.

Hope this helps,
Richard

Same here. I got phoned by apple too. Nothing wrong with apple’s service. It became responsive again when they remotely accessed my MBP, it froze again the moment when they hang up. If I connect the MBP touchbar 2018 to a remote screen it is not freezing and the hang seem to occur mostly but not always with adobe’s cloud. I cleaned the machine using onyx. It took 90 minutes to restart the machine after I worked through the cleaning process. If I starts up from an external ssd there is no problem, so it is not hardware related but user specific. My trackpad freezes first, I can move the cursor but need to click with 2 fingers instead of one to open or close applications, next I get a spinning g ball.

At first I blamed my 2 new MacBook Pro's for the freezes too. I still have my mail app freezing up but I noticed that the freezing problem (sometimes a few times an hour) was solely to blame on third party apps that were interacting with safari and mail. Try checking third party programs that are using plugins.

I got around the problem by deleting my mail and safari plists. I still have occasionally freezes but they are to blame to Daylite CRM from Marketcircle that seem to have a problem with loading mail attachments. I disabled that part.

Thank you. This is a very interesting post! While I have random freeze, whose frequency is reduced now miraculously (perhaps after the latest update to 10.14.3), I still have one very consistent type of hard freeze: When my MacBook wakes up from Sleep and I dare to login, using the Touch ID instead of the Password, the computer locks up completely. No Mouse movement, no keystroke is recognized, not even the Caps Lock key changes the light, when toggled. I have to do a cold start.

My other random freezes have been when using the touchpad. I can't say whether these were all of them.

By the way, my MacBook pro is a 2016 model, and the freezes only started after upgrading the OS to Mojave. I haven't tried to go back because this would be such a pain.

I started troubleshooting with Apple (I had already a supervisor for another issue), but just then the lockup wouldn't occur.

It only started again the next day. Haven't had a chance to go further. I am avoiding Touch ID for now.
