Touch ID "unlocking your mac" option keeps unchecking by itself

The original thread is here:Touch ID "unlocking your mac" option keeps unchecking by itself

But is locked, so I created a new one since I found a solution.

Here is the content of the original thread below:

I'm using a macbook proThe Touch ID option "unlocking your mac" keeps getting unchecked and I'm not doing it. I can check the option, return to the main settings area and immediately go back into the Touch ID screen and it is now unchecked. Prior to this it was working fine. I did not do any upgrades before it stopped working.

So far I have tried the following with no luck...

- restarting

- removing the finger print, restarting, adding the finger print

- removing the finger print, not restarting, adding the finger print

- checking all of the options (the other two remain checked but "unlock your mac" is unchecked)

- upgrading to High Sierra 10.13.3

I have verified that...

- I am not logged out of my user account

- This happens both when I have and have not restarted my mac

- my finger print has not been unrecognized five times in a row

- It's been less than 48 hours since the last time it was unlocked

- the finger print has just been enrolled but it wasn't working before when it wasn't enrolled

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Here is the provided solution that my IT administrator gave, and worked:

Want to clear out all Touch ID information and configuration data from a Mac with Touch Bar? Here’s how to that:

  1. Restart the Mac and immediately hold down Command + R keys to boot into Recovery Mode
  2. At the “MacOS Utilities” screen, pull down the “Utilities” menu and choose “Terminal”
  3. At the command line, type the following and then hit return:
  4. xartutil --erase-all
  5. Then restart your MacBook.
  6. Setup your Touch ID.

After that the issue is resolved for me

Hope this helps
