Is there an ical calendar with US holidays that can be edited to the user's needs?

It would be nice to have an ical calendar for holidays in which the user could delete holidays that don't apply to their business or personal lives. Unfortunately the Apple calendar list is excessively inclusive to the point that its adding holidays that nobody has ever heard of. I've searched for several hours only to find dozens of "subscribe" calendars that are nothing more than repeats of the Apple calendar. Users would like to see when Easter is on the calendar.... yet, it's not there but "Junteenth" is. go figure.

And no, repeatedly linking icalshare.com doesn't help when icalshare.com is nothing but a search site that dumps thousands of calendars on the user with no true search function. The only US Holidays Calendars there are nothing but repeats of Apple's calendar.

Are there any simple US Holidays calendars that can be added to ical that have US Holidays?

What burns me up is that Patriot Day (September 11th) isn’t listed on Apple’s US Holidays calendar, yet Indigenous People’s Day, Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and popular US Holodays like Ashura, and Eid al-Adha are! Is Apple afraid they might offend people by listing Patroliot Day??? ***?

careful.... I've said similar things on this site and had my posts removed by the "powers that be".... They, who's name cannot be spoken, don't like people making comments that would even remotely be considered of traditional values, holidays, and celebrations of faith based people within the land....

did I say that carefully enough not to be banned for life?

and thank you for proving the point. one only needs to watch the news and senate hearings to see the reality that free speech is being restricted by companies with the intent on limiting opinions they disagree with .... and you're the perfect example. In your twisted thinking, civil fashion means never, ever have an opinion that disagrees with those from your side of the road.

Unfortunately for you,.... the other side is winning the argument by being civil by the actual definition of the word. Banning people you disagree with is far from civil. In fact, it's pretty intolerant.

The fact that it is observed by a commercial or government entity is not what make a holiday a holiday (quotes are not required as they are quite real and legitimate). Things become holidays because the celebrate or commemorate something important to a group of people. Easter may not be a holiday that I or most of the people I know observe but that doesn't make unnecessary or less legitimate than the holidays I do observe.

Finding a calendar that suits you shouldn't require that you denigrate the holidays that are important to others.

To which one of the many hundreds of religions that are practiced in the world that doesn't have holidays listed on Apple's U.S. Holiday calendar are you referring?

Subscription calendars by definition cannot be edited by a user, only by the provider of the subscription calendar. It's a worldwide standard.

I was able to easily find the calendars I wanted on iCalshare.com.

Thanks for your attempt.... I'll not reply to you again since you seem to want to be argumentative and I'm not going there. I'll reply to those who want to discuss possible workarounds for this issue. Considering this forum has had hundreds of requests for this with some resolutions working for some people and others not working, it's not an unreasonable request.

Thanks..... the first one is rather limited to federal government holidays. It doesn't have any of the expanded holidays that most school districts use. And the obvious miss is that it doesn't have Easter and Palm Sunday which (due to shifting dates) would be important to schools for typical spring break and Easter planning.

The second one, I had the same issues with that other users had posed as conflicts. Especially duplication of the holiday on several dates as well as listing several holidays as a two day event.

Fortunately both of those can be edited. Although it would be nice to have Easter on the calendar considering its a holiday celebrated world wide.

I may have to settle for taking that first one and editing it with the dates it fails to include.

Thanks.... Yes, I understand that the subscription based calendars cannot be change... I get that. And as stated earlier, the icalshare.com provides several. But they all are a repeat of the same thing Apple is listing, which includes hundreds of unnecessary "holidays" that are not typically recognized federal holidays by banks, schools, mail service, and businesses.

Thanks Lawrence. The comments made by several others on that particular website are expressing what I've experienced with it as well. I was finally able to get it to load and it might have to be my option. It will take a lot of alteration to fit our needs, but it's about all there is.

We found one online last year that was not a "subscription" base and was for a 2 year period. That set runs out in 2019. Putting it in as a normal calendar set rather than a subscription gave us the option of simply deleting the dates that didn't apply to our organization. Since you can't edit the subscription calendars they just don't work.... far too many dates appear that we don't uses.

We'll probably just use this one and edit out, ... and edit in... the dates we use. Just frustrating that so many of the online calendars miss holidays that are universally celebrated (Easter, Palm Sunday, and Good Friday etc..) Those dates usually connect with our spring break schedule and are important for our scheduling of staff.

thanks again

If you find one, I am interested. I only want the ones I follow, but don’t want to use an app and tranfer all my events to an app. I wonder why Apple could not provide the ability to customize.

Take a look at the first page of this thread. Threre are several links to alternative calendar subscriptions that you can use. As has been explained multiple times, subscription calendars, by their nature cannot be edited.

Hi... I'll keep that in mind. I've started using one of the fixed date add-on calendars that have the majority of the correct dates listed and then tried to edit in or edit out dates that are not recognized by our district/work environment. As you say, it's unfortunate that Apple doesn't provide a method by which we can customize some of these to be extended for future years.

Also, I apologize for the antagonistic responses by some on this thread. There seem to be some very angry and disagreeable people who feel obligated to reply when they think they've already solved the issue. If the issue had truly been resolved, then there wouldn't be so many people asking the same question.

It might have been easier for ongoing subscriptions to be divided up into each specific holiday that could be added individually to meet the user's needs, rather than a one size fits all omnibus calendar subscription.

hummmm.... wonder if anyone will block, ban, or remove your post for being insensitive, insulting, confrontational, etc.... yes. and Antietam day is next week. Guess you have to be of the right political persuasion to be banned and deleted by the powers that be.
