USB C Type to Mini DisplayPort adapter

Got the brand new 2018 Macbook Pro and tried to connect it to apple cinema display (Mini DisplayPort) by using an adapter from ICY BOX (https://www.raidsonic.de/en/standards/searchresults.php?we_objectID=4521#technic al_data).

Nothing happens, the monitor stays dead. I have tried two adapters and two monitors. Is there any reason why this should not be just plug and play?

Apple Mini DisplayPort displays also have a USB plug on the Mini DisplayPort cable. If there is no USB plug, you may have a Thunderbolt display. Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort plugs look the same, but the Thunderbolt plug will have a lightning bolt icon on it.

If it's a Thunderbolt display, you will need a Thunderbolt-3 to Thunderbolt adapter.

I think what could be the problem with the adapter I had was that the USB-C connection to the computer was so tight and possible not stuck all the way inn and therefor no connection. I switched it for a USB-C to DVI adapter. This kind of works on my 23" Cinema Display, except that the image is fading 5mm from the edges of the screen, there is a kind of woven texture all over, and windows are still visible after they are closed (ghosting).
