15“ MacBook Pro and 16:9 QHD resolution

Connecting a 2018 15“ MacBook Pro to a 27“ 16:9 Dell or EIZO monitor selects 1080p as the default resolution. Both monitors natively support 2560x1440 but it doesn’t show up as an alternative on the MacBook. A 30” 16:10 HP monitor works fine and 2560x1600 is used automatically. It seems that the MacBook does not support 2560x1440. Is this correct?

Thanks

Willi

No that is not correct.

The moment you choose [√] Mirror Displays, your internal and external displays are set to a resolution BOTH displays can achieve at the same time. This limits the resolutions that can be chosen.

If you uncheck Mirror Displays, each display can realize its full potential.

NOTE: if using HDMI as your interface, this may also add limitations, as HDMI was designed for HD: 1920 by 1080p, and extending it is a minefield of problems.
