Groupings ID3 in iTunes 12 blank

This is an odd one. I recently upgraded my OS and now none of my tracks are displaying any information under the "grouping" field in iTunes 12.

If I view the same tracks in iTunes 11, the group is displayed normally.

The id3 tags are mostly version 2.4, but there are some 2.3.

iTunes 12.7.4

macOS 12.13.6

Anyone have an idea as to what's going on?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), iTunes 12.7.4

A while back Apple introduced three new fields; work, movement no., and movement name, into iTunes, primarily for organizing classical music. (See Organize your classical music in iTunes - Apple Support for more.) Work reuses the field previously used to store grouping, which now gets a new field (offhand I cannot recall the ID3 tag value for it). This repurposing of an existing field most likely explains your observations.

See this earlier thread Not playing classical music movements in order where I've posted a script to swap the work and grouping values if that might prove useful to you.

Thanks so much turingtest! This certainly solved my issue.

I didn't even need the script. All I needed to do was have iTunes display the "Work" column, and now I'm good to go. This saved me a real headache of manually retagging my library.

I can understand Apple deciding to repurpose a tag, but I'm confused as to why the "work" tag doesn't come up in the get info dialog.

In any event thanks again.
