Logic not recognising MIDI keyboard input anymore

Hi all,

I've been using Logic Pro X for quite a while with my Yamaha MIDI USB keyboard which used to work all the time, yet now Logic does not recognise it as an input and when I press a key on the keyboard, there is no sign of output/recognition in Logic.

A couple of days ago, I used the Audio MIDI Setup app to allow me to use bluetooth and wired headphones at once with my computer, and I have a hunch that doing so could've had some impact on the way the Mac recognises my keyboard now, though it could equally be a problem with Logic. Here's a pic of the MIDI Studio window when the keyboard is plugged in:

And here's a pic of the Logic MIDI Environment if that helps at all:

I would appreciate any help with solving this issue!

All the best,

Adam

You don't need the IAC driver.

Let's go nuclear

Delete user preferences

Before deleting user preferences, note any specific preference settings that you’ve made, and save any custom key commands you've created. Deleting preferences removes any custom preference settings and custom key commands.

To delete the user preferences, do the following:

  1. Quit Logic Pro X.
  2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Preferences, then click Go.
  4. Remove the "com.apple.logic10.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
  5. If you upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, also remove the "com.apple.logic.pro" file.
  6. Restart your Mac.
  7. While you are in the same location also delete the control surface "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" preferences.

Both will be rebuilt need time Logic is started. p.s. If you don't feel comfortable deleting, simply move them.

Also, a few Logic preference settings we need to be reset. Use Logic's preference first, don't depend on the OS to choose your interface.

Is the physical connection between Yamaha and Mac OK? I'd check that first. Also, on the Environment screenshot, Input View actually displays incoming MIDI notes. If you see activity in Input View when you press a key on the keyboard, then Logic receives MIDI data. In that case, the issue might be with how a particular software instrument track is configured.

Some users suggest bypassing all control surfaces might help in cases when Logic suddenly stops acknowledging previously working MIDI keyboards: Logic Pro X > Control Surfaces > Bypass All Control Surfaces.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply! There doesn't seem to be an problem with the physical connection, and in the Environment screenshot, the input view notes were actually me just clicking the piano keys on the little digital piano it shows - not Logic receiving any input from the keyboard.

I tried bypassing the control surfaces, but that sadly didn't work, either.

Also, in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Control Surfaces, it doesn't show that there is a MIDI controller connected.

Any other ideas?

By the way, I get this message whenever I enter the USB my computer, so Logic is recognising it to an extent, but not entirely since when I press keys on the MIDI keyboard, it doesn't correspond with Logic.

Hey! I was just opening up Logic to take the screenshot and then it just started to work again! I have no clue why - it could be due to one of your or Panceter's suggestions but thank you for the tips. Sorry for wasting your time!

If you didn't reboot the computer as per the list of instructions after using the tilde ~ in the command line, it's just going to use the old preferences in memory, either a certain amount of time has to pass and/or starting Logic once or twice, or.... you need to reboot the computer to clear memory. Really important follow the procedure exactly as written when troubleshooting Logic.
