Mac OS 10.13.6 Preview 10.0 totally unresponsive

In iMac14,2, Intel Core i5, Mac OS 10.13.6, Preview 10.0 totally unresponsive. Will not quit with 'ForceQuit' or open. Was working fine until today. Is there a fix for it, or should I try and delete the app and download/install new one.

MacBook, iMac, iPhone4, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

force quit fails to kill apps and prevents shutdown Hi I have an irritating transient error on a new Macbook Pro (OSX 10.15.2). Apps will occasionally start up with a blank window and no content, then cannot be killed with force quit. Yesterday it was Tweetdeck, today it was App Store (but Tweetdeck is working okay). There seems to be no consistent pattern or way to replicate this. This is a brand new mac with a recently clean install of OSX 10.15.2, with my data restored from a time machine backup from a previous mac. All apps are up to date and the App Store issue this morning showed it's even the Apple Native macs. I can't restart or shut down when this happens as I get the "shut down was stopped by XYX - use Force Quit to kill it". When I do force quit, it won't die. No process is shown in the activity monitor, so I'm forced to shutdown by holding down the power button until the mac switches off and reboots. Any ideas on what's wrong (or is this an OSX wait for a new update thing?). Seems like it's a fault with the OS somewhere starting up an app incorrectly and then not having something to shut down. Difficult to test, as I can't replicate which app it happens with, or when it's going to occur. Any ideas on how to kill something that won't be killed by force quit and isn't listed in the Activity Monitor as an active process gratefully received!

Mac OS 10.15.2 applications do not quit Shortly after installing 10.15.2, I've begun to have the problem of applications not quitting. Selecting "quit" causes the screens for the app to close, but it's still present in the "force-quit" list, sometimes (but I don't think all the time) its icon remains in the dock, and in all cases the app is thenceforth "dead," that is, I cannot use it again without a system restart. Force-quit sometimes appears to work (the app's icon disappears from the list), but in fact the app's still ghosting somewhere because I still can't use it. A normal system restart doesn't work, presumably because these ghost apps are interfering (sometimes I get the message that they cancelled restart, sometimes not), and so I have to hold down the start button for the requisite 10 seconds or so. This has happened with Firefox, Dreamweaver, and MS Excel, possibly others as well; it's a very frequent problem, but of course it doesn't always happen. Anybody have a suggestion?

Preview app not responding and unable to force quit Preview app not responding and unable to force quit. Tried shut down but the preview app is impeding the shut down! I'm using iMac 2017, OS version 10.13.6

It should just reinstall the system and leave your data files alone. However, I would make sure I had a current full backup of the hard drive before attempting any major update, upgrade or repair.
