I need to disable my 2 factor authentication but the screen in my settings doesnt allow me to do that. The link to do that is not appearing. What can I do ? I have a Iphone 8 Plus and created the Icloud account last week.

You cannot disable Two-Factor Authentication because Apple security measures to protect your privacy no longer allows you to turn it off. I have no clue why you can't sign out of iCloud. I can't see your device, and I'm not psychic, so without a clue from you as to what is happening, I have no way to help you with that.
If you care to share what issues you are running into when you try to sign out of iCloud, we will try to help to the best of our abilities.

You won't be able to turn it off:
Some Apple IDs created in iOS 10.3 or macOS 10.12.4 and later are protected with two-factor authentication by default. In this case, you see that two-factor authentication is already turned on.

It's not more than one password. It is a system which requires two very separate pieces of information in order to verify that the person signing into your highly personal and likely private information is actually you and not some hacker. You would prefer to just use a password? And would you like to be able to make that password very simply so you don't forget it? That creates an even better situation for would-be hackers out there.

My problem is that I have an AppleTV Gen 2 and, while the registration of the device requires the second identification factor, the Apple TV software doesn't allow for it. my hope was to disable the 2 factor, register my Apple TV, and then re-enable 2 factor. However, since I can't disable the 2 factor, I will have to trash my Apple TV.
Can you fathom that although you have a high value for two-factor authentication, not everyone does? Some people want to control their experience and customize it, not have Apple control them. You take away freedom and personal control when you force a system that was once optional onto devices where it is no longer an option. This forum or thread was not created for you to make your point about the benefits of two-factor authorization, it's a way for us to try to figure out how to turn it tf off
disable 2 way auth option required again else exit apple while looking where to switch, supported opensource but more easy than bsd linux, winphone not available, do you know something out of boring 2 way auth?
2 factor auth and 2 way auth, could have been better as option, couse new customers will not join and other leave. no disable 2auth than you know, where you want to go?

You would have had to have set up some alternative Trusted Phone Numbers on your Apple account before your device was no longer working. You can set up a number for any mobile device or landline. It just needs to be a number that you have access to, whether that be your Mom's landline, your significant other's mobile phone, or any other phone number that you trust your code to go to.
If you are signed into iCloud on any other iOS device running iOS 9 or later, or any other Mac running OSX El Capitan or higher, you would be able to get the Verification Code there.

Thank you but unsatisfactory. 2 factor authentication would be a wonderful security "option". I am not going to phone a relative living in a different time zone just to have access to a service I chose to use (iCloud and all the Apple represented services) prior to the initiation of mandatory 2 factor.
If I close my Apple account, will that get rid of 2 factor authentication altogether or might it relate to any other applications than those within the iCloud blanket?
I use Backblaze as my primary backup anyway so don't need the cloud.

If you purchase a new phone and set up a new Apple ID, you do not have to (at this time) enable 2FA. For that matter, if you sign out of the Apple ID you currently have that has 2FA enabled, delete all the apps purchased under that Apple ID, and set up a new one, you don't have to enable 2FA.
Or, don't use an Apple ID at all, as you suggested. The choice is yours.

As Idris so kindly indicated (thanks Idris - cool thing to know!), if you set up a brand new Apple account you are not currently required to set up Two Factor Authentication. So, if you are planning on going that route, then you would be able to sign in and use all of the features.
If you don't want to set up an Apple account you can simply use the device as a phone and just use the pre-installed apps that do not require an Apple ID to function. But remember that you would then not be able to turn on Find My iPhone because you wouldn't be signing into iCloud, so you wouldn't be able to track a lost or stolen device. You would also not be able to put a Lock on it or Erase it remotely if it were lost or stolen.
I've pasted a list of most, if not all, of the apps pre-installed for iOS 12. I have marked the ones that would require an Apple ID to sign in, so that you can determine if your additional functionality would be acceptable without being able to use those apps.
So, hopefully Idris and I have helped provide a better overview of the whole thing 😊

Wow! Thanks Gail. This at least gives me some alternatives. Since you went to all that trouble, I'll give you a recent example:
I have an office at one end of the house. Approx. 150 feet away we have a small yoga room. The other morning, I left my phone in the office on purpose and went to do yoga. I use a yoga app on Apple TV (you see where this is going?) Apple TV required the code and so I walked back to my office to get the code and of course because it's early, instead of writing it down I brought the phone back to the yoga room to enter the code and yes, didn't think about then turning off the phone, which I almost never do, but rather went looking for a place to hide it where I wouldn't hear it. The next time I will turn off the phone after making certain I won't need the code. The problem is that one has to figure out a work-arounds for several scenarios (I refuse to call my daughter in New Mexico so that I can use icloud apps if I don't happen to be in the proximity of two or more ios devices.

The question I have is why did the ATV require the code? I haven't had to enter the 2FA code on my ATV since I set it up for HomeKit. Did you just set it up? Make changes? If you can get that figured out, it would be one less issue.

You don't need to be in the proximity of two or more iOS devices. You can set up any phone, even a landline, as a trusted number.
