How do I connect a bluetooth mouse that does not have a pin?

I'm trying to connect my HP Bluetooth Laser N558 Mouse to my 2012 Macbook Pro. The bluetooth menu is finding the mouse, but is unable to connect because it is asking for a PIN number-- but the mouse doesn't require one. So I've tried all the usual suspects, 0000 1234 1111 and I tried to leave it blank but it would not connect. Any ideas on how to connect this mouse that has no pin?
