can the Apple USB SuperDrive be used with a TV?

I am thinking about buying the Apple USB SuperDrive for my new MacBook Pro (2018) and am wondering if it will work with other devices besides my computer. I particularly would like to use the DVD player with the TV in my travel trailer. The travel trailer has a USB connection that can be used, but I'm wondering if you can use it as a DVD player and if you can eject without the computer.

The Apple superdrive is a product with strong compromises. It draws about 900 milliamps when most USB ports are limited to 500 milliamps. It requires some obscure patches to work at all on a Mac that shipped with a DVD reader. It is a notebook-type drive inside, and is not especially rugged.

If you do not already own this unit, I find it difficult to recommend it.

a desktop-type drive (with a tray) in an external enclosure is a much better choice.

Did you know you can already share the drive on almost any Mac or PC on your Home network?
