screen black with purple vertical stripe

User uploaded file

• . I have a 21.5" 2.7 gHz i5 iMac (late 2012) running OS X 10.11.6.

• . This machine has been my faithful workhorse until, very suddenly, the screen went black. I was not running any intensive applications at the time... had Google Chrome browser and Notes app open.

• . I powered the iMac down and tried the restarting the system via the following:

a) restart; b) reset the SMC; c) reset the NVRAM/PRAM; C) restart in safe mode

-- to no avail -- still black screen but with varying widths of vertical purple stripes.

• I believe the system is operational as my Magic mouse and keyboard lights indicate they are communicating with the iMac however, I cannot see anything on the monitor at all.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or is this a case where some card needs to be replace by a technician?

Thank you!

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5;

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. If you did not purchase it from Apple then you will need to look to the vendor for service or How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).
