Apparently, I have forgotten the password to get into the main account of my MacBook. I have logged in as guest and now can't get back to the start up screen. I have tried to start up in recovery mode and that hasn't worked yet either. Is there a way to get back to the start up that allows log in on main account or guest?

yup- you're getting warmer. See if you can start up from the Recovery partition, then move your mouse to the top center of your screen to OS X tools. Go to the Terminal, and type in "resetpassword" (without the quotes) then press the Return key. This will get you to the reset password app. Here you can reset your password and username. It may give you a warning about the Keychain password not being changed. For now ignore it. Save it, make sure your startup disk is the one inside your MacBook and reboot it. You should now be able to log in to your Macbook pro, as per normal
