Pornographic Popups and Virus Warning!!!!

I'm running 10.13 OSx

Someone got unauthorized access to our computer and viewed **** sites very recently.

I just went on the computer and all of a sudden lots and lots of popups of **** started appearing, then my desktop filled with safari icons and the computer started making a noise.

Finally a popup appeared giving a notice saying contact apple because I have a virus.

The computer is now unusable :-(

Could someone please give me some advice on what to do?

I'm not even sure that the popup with a phone number supposedly from apply is legit.

Many Thanks for any help!

Force quit Safari (Apple Menu->Force quit...).

Next how down the Shift key when opening Safari. This will force it

to start by opening to your home page.

As stated in a previous post Clear History...

You should be back to normal.

It may also be necessary to disconnect from any connected network

if it is still an issue and then perform the above.

What you have encountered is likely a persistant javascript

(not Java which is different) on a page that was visited that continually

loads pop-ups and continually "phones home" to refresh the page

thereby making Safari unresponsive.

You should still make sure you did not inadvertently download and install

adware/malware by installing and running Malwarebytes.

First try to clear it from the browser. If Safari, in the Safari dropdown menu Clear History. In Safari Preferences / Privacy / Manage Website Data / click on Remove All. In Safari Preferences / Advanced check the box at bottom for Show Develop menu in menu bar. Then go to Develop and click on Clear caches. Also click on Security and enable Block pop-up windows.

If this does not solve it, you may have to reinstall the OS from Recovery mode. Boot up while holding down the Command and R keys and choose Reinstall OS.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
