iPad mini won’t erase data, find WiFi, or turn off find my iPad

so I have an iPad mini. It’s probably first gen. I have no idea it was a Christmas gift in 2014. But it will no longer find any WiFi network. I can’t factory reset it since “find my iPad” is turned off. Any time I try to turn it off or sign out of erase data I get “verification failed. there Was an error connecting to the Apple ID server” And I can’t see the iPad on icloud either. So I’m completely Stuck! Help!

If you haven’ t received any update notices in the iOS Software Update feature in 2-1/2 years, then your iPad is a 1st generation iPad Mini 1 and cannot be upgraded past iOS 9.3.5.

If you have a computer with the latest iTunes version, see if you can perform a backup, first.

Then proceed with trying out Zukken’s advice.

Once completed, perform another restore of your iPad data backup from iTunes.

Sounds like you may want to give resetting the iPad through iTunes a shot. With the symptoms you've described I would recommend starting out with a DFU Restore which would at the very least ensure that this is not a software/firmware issue and get the newest version of iOS installed. Keep in mind that any data on the device will be completely lost after this process.
