MacBook Pro (mid 2015) High Sierra 10.13.6 is very slow

In the last 3 weeks or so, I am experiencing a very slow start-up and degraded performance at every click using my MacBook Pro. Haven't done any upgrades apart from AppStore recommended and no new software installed.

Can I get some guidance on what and where to check?

Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with Lastpass. Also it looks like you have some old Joystick software that was installed, and not in use, while having new joystick software. Is it possible the game is running on some system that is in the background?

The instability in the system is worrying. I would backup your data, preferably a clone, so you can easily recover after doing analysis.

Can you provide a little more detail? For example, when in the course of using the machine does it begin to appear to run slower than expected. Does it occur after launching a particular app? Does it occur immediately after login? When did you first notice the issue? A month ago, less, more? Does it begin to happen after using the machine for some time?

Consider answering these to the best of your ability.

Please run a backup asap to be sure that this is not a hard drive issue. As drives age they can contribute to poor performance as they attempt to read and/or write with higher than normal frequency. The drive is fairly young but this could be a cause.

Does the spinning ball appear? If so, is over every open app window including the menu bar or is it isolated over a particular app window?

I would back up, reset PRAM and SMC, run Disk Utility and if issues persist run Onyx, a free utility.

Please report back.
