Unable to delete libgutenprint.2.0.3.dylib from trash

I have a folder "Incompatible software" on my user name folders with this libgutenprint.2.0.3.dylib file probably coming from previous versions of OS update that can not remove from trash... try every thing I know without success. Have some one same experience and did find a solution ?

Do you have an external HD with a bootable system on it? If so boot into it and delete the file from your internal drive.

Or if you have access to another Mac, use Target Disk Mode, Transferring files between two computers using Target Disk Mode, to access your boot drive and delete the file.

Have you tried Get Info and see where the permissions, sharing, & privileges are seen..?

In the folder or file info, these can be tweaked after unlocking w/ your Admin password.

Or via 'Go To Folder' you may find that folder w/ libgutenprint associations and see what

can be done to it. If faced with that, I know that I could remove it. Because its from an old

printer driver, one of the ways to delete it back when current, was to re-install the software

and use its own Uninstaller. ~ Perhaps one of the good 'freeware uninstallers' could do.

Something such as this may do adequately:

App Cleaner & Uninstaller on the Mac App Store

Be aware that uninstaller and other software can include bad malware bits and so should be

carefully considered. Even 'Easy Find' has an uninstall feature; among other utilities. Some do

occasionally get exercised; but I'm not in the habit. They could do more harm than expected.

Depending on what 'everything' was you tried, something or another should work to remove this item.

There is a command line or Terminal answer online that may work, if you feel comfortable in use of it.

"...boot into Recovery Mode (CMD+R) and use Terminal to remove the folder..."

I'd consider restart in [ Safe mode ] and then see if you could access the folder, its name (change it?)

or see if you can change its permissions; a super-user level may allow this. ~ Other things can work

or anything except Terminal; while seldom seek command-line answers. Or try your luck w/ Terminal.

The 'gutenprint' subfolder was part of a printer driver package, downloaded from one of their pages.

Given the item was in the Trash and would not dispense from that location

usual process would be to try and move item from Trash first, then see if it

can be addressed from Finder desktop by 'other' processes. There's more:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+to+empty+trash+macOS&t=ffsb&ia=web

And for removal of items (generally) from Trash that won't go away: this...

"If you decide to empty the trash in OS X, and end up getting an error or otherwise not seeing the contents delete,

first try holding the Option key when emptying, which will invoke the OS X Force Empty feature, bypassing things

like file locks and removing any file you have in the Trash." Force empty that stubborn trash bin in OS X

(That is normally is one of the things to try. ~ As the story was, you said you'd tried everything: Maybe.)

To have a good backup and know when/how to use it, is a good course of action.

..Thank you for getting back on this topic with your solution..

TK Old Toad and Shaffer for your help, after trying all sort of options not working I went to an idiot process but worked out.... made a new complete backup using time machine and restarted using comm r to recover mode and used the recover backup to my Mac, so it format the Macintosh drive and recover all my files except the trash that is not backed-up...

I believe doing so that Old Toad process will work also. Finally I'm so happy... Thanks for you support.

Best regards

Jaime

Thanks Shaffer, but safe mode didn't work could not change name nothing, I'm not familiar with terminal but tried to use c lines suggested by others with no results.

In terminal used rm -R (space) and drag the folder with file I want to delete, the return was, override rwxr-xr-x Root/wheel restricted, compressed/users.... and no success.

Thanks for the help
