Hi! This question is in regard to a problem I am facing with the preview application.

When I use the highlight shortcut (^ + ⌘ + H) or Annotate > Highlight Text method, my text ends up being underlined instead of highlighting. The highlight still works if I use the highlighting function on the top right hand area of the application.

I'm currently using High Sierra. Has anyone faced this problem before and knows of a solution to make the shortcut work again?

This works as designed.

Highlight shortcut (^ + ⌘ + H) or Annotate > Highlight Text does not refer to highlight text itself but refer to a style which is Highlight, Underline or Strikethrough. It means that it will perform the default action which is on of those three. To change the default action of Annotate > Highlight Text, you need to follow the instructions mentioned here: Highlight, underline, and strike out text in a PDF using Preview on Mac - Apple Support.

"Click the Highlight button (so it turns blue), click the down arrow next to the Highlight button, then choose a highlight color, underline, or strikethrough. "

"Click the Highlight button (so it turns blue)" doesn't work on my Preview. I know what you mean because I've used the Highlight mode before. But sometimes it just stops working. No matter how many times I click, the button won't turn blue. So each time I wanna highlight, I need to highlight the text, then click the arrow down button and click the highlight color over and over again. It is time consuming and annoying.

Are you saying you have to Shift-Command-H without anything selected? That defeats the purpose, doesn't it? How do you then select the text and paint it?
