Macbook Pro name changing issue

I currently own a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) running high sierra (10.13.6).

Because I use airdrop quite often I find it important to have a unique laptop name that makes it easy to identify my computer when transferring information. This MacBook is new (less than 2 weeks old) and it has an issue that I didn't have with my old late 2012 MacBook pro. Whenever I change the computer name (through system preferences>sharing>type in the bar>enter>lock) the name changes back to the laptop's serial number whenever I log out and back in. I'm not sure why this is occurring and it's quite frustrating to have to change the name every time I log in.
