Can you reinstall osx from single user mode?

I typed kill -9 -1 into terminal and am unable to boot. I need to re install the OSX, but I don't have recovery mode. School Laptop BTW. There is a firmware password. I have access to single user mode.

If the school set a firmware password, there is nothing you can do without it.

You cannot reinstall OSX from single user mode. If you have a recovery disk that came with your computer, you may be able to boot from that.

What happens when you try to boot normally?
