Internet speeds slower than on Win10

I have a situation I need help on. I have Optimum/Cablevision as my ISP with Ultra300 for internet speed. On my Late 2009 27"iMac (macOS High Sierra 10.13.6) I consistently got 120-130 download speeds. Optimum came out and tested the cable and modem and it clocked at 500 download. So that pretty much ruled out Optimum fault. My work laptop is on Win10 and when I run speedtest, I get closer to 300 (260 - 275) on download speeds.

This rules out router and cable modem issues. All these tests are run over Ethernet connection (I am not looking for advice related to Wi-Fi speeds). Link speed is 1Gbit/sec:

I tried to change the MTU settings in the Network Settings to Jumbo 9000 - this seems to have helped a little bit; now my iMac shows 175-180 on download speeds.

But it is still nowhere near the speed that Win10 unit shows.

Question: Is there anything else I can do to tweak macOS settings to allow higher internet speed, since it is obviously something within macOS?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I very much doubt your using Windows 10 tools to measure speed: it might lie. You'd have to test downloads on either machine alternately to settle in a number by hand.

Apple's 1000baseT is built into the Intel Chipset, your Apple uses %100 intel board and chips (worth paying more for - dell does not do this), which is simply speaking: the best 1000baseT your going to likely ever see. It's speed is on Apple's specifications.

Apples networking stack is excellent.

So there are two issues. #1 you said your ISP measured speed but not the speed on your Apple. So how can we answer if that is NOT running top speed? Perhaps the imac does run at that speed.

another issue is you didn't show ALL your network connections. do you have multiple connections to your modem (ie, both wifi and bluetooth)? is your iMac wifi the same speed as it's ethernet port? I haven't checked the specs for you. are you relying on wifi speed to your ISP modem or cat6 speed? older wifi may not be fast enough. did you try cat6 (ethernet direct)?

another issue is you said your ISP clocked it at 500 but Windows 10 gets 200-300. that's inconsistent.

there are still several things to run down before one can comment on whether you even have a "speed" issue or a usage issue

what i mean is: you've only posted 1/2 of the info one needs to know before agreeing the connection is slow or even that your using the right connection
