Latest version for Airport Express 802.11n (first generation)

There are two models of Airport Express 802.11n, a "first generation" (brick shape) and "second generation" (puck shape). Since the release of firmware 7.8, the firmware versions table at Update the firmware on your AirPort base station - Apple Support doesn't distinguish these two models.

My Airport Express 802.11n first generation doesn't see any firmware updates after 7.6.9, so I assume I can't use Airplay 2. If that's correct, this page should be updated.

If you are referring to this document......About AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.8 Information......or the document that you linked in your post.......Apple was notified shortly after the document(s) appeared yesterday.

There are several glaring errors in the Apple document linked above:

1) The AirPort that is illustrated in the document is not an AirPort Express

2) The firmware update applies only to the 2012 version of the AirPort Express, known as the 2nd Generation model.....not to all 802.11n versions of the Express.

3) The document is dated December 12, 2017, yet it appeared on August 28, 2018.

So far, Apple has not corrected the document, but perhaps they will.
