Hello everyone, I noticed my Mac is running slow. I have a MPro mid-2012 non retina. This is the result after asking for a report in etrecheck. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to make my system faster and just avoid the system lag that happens most of the time. Is there anything that I need to uninstall? or install? Thank you so much! Help would be very much appreciated folks ü

Hello Julio!

I wonder if CleanMyMac helps even a little bit to increase the performance of my mac.

No. Period. If you are trying to mentally justify spending money on CMM, let it go as a costly lesson. Every non-Apple product with has ads scattered all over the web that claim to clean, tune-up, wash the windows, or change your Mac's diaper are scams. The reason is that the modern Mac OS is well-equipped to already do what these con artists claim to offer. The performance hit comes when these interlopers compete with the processes that MacOS has in place to do needed maintenance actions. There is ONE exception--Malwarebytes. We trust it.

That model MBP is the one that is most improved by user-installable hardware upgrades but your disk is in such a mess right now that I cannot recommend any action other than a major clean-up. You have adware, a corrupted configuration file, Chrome, and a bad battery. Also your OS is so old that Etrecheck could not read it. Please do "About ths Mac.." and report what OS is installed. That can affect how to implement software upgrade recommendations.

In short, consider a complete erase and reinstall of your current OS to start clean. Then make the OS current, then consider hardware upgrades. If you transfer the mess on your drive now to a new one, the mess is still there.

Lets look at costs for upgrades I'd recommend doing after a major clean-up:

  • new Battery at Apple (they still service that model) -- US$129
  • 8GB RAM from OWC -- US$68
  • 500GB SATA 6GBps Solid State Drive Kit from OWC: US$167
  • Replacement drive cable for SSD install (should always be changed with changing the hard drive) US$15

That's US$379. Are you considering that much expense? Some money could be saved by going to a smaller SSD but you've already used over 250GB of your current drive and the next size down is 250GB--a misfit for sure. Other than a new battery, those items exact match the current config of my MBP13 of the same model running OS 10.13.6. It is very fast, completing an Etrecheck run in about 2-1/2 minutes.

Hi ckuan, appreciate that! I realized that I wasn't able to remove the adwares because it's not updated so I just installed the latest from their site. I already deleted the Clean my mac, and will surely remove the adwares.

I wonder if CleanMyMac helps even a little bit to increase the performance of my mac. Does it? Coz sometimes when files are cluttering around my system, it's the only third party app to go --since I have no idea of any other.
