No option to turn off two factor authentication

I want to shut off the two factor verification. I looked at the instructions online, and it says to got to appleid.apple.com, and then shut it off under the security section. However, when I try to edit that section, I have no link to shut it off. How do I shut off the two factor verification when it's not given to me as an option?User uploaded file

As Apple customers we should have the right to decide if we want to continue two part security thing or not. This is a bunch of crap. I'm grown I can decide for myself what is secure enough and what isn't

This is really annoying... I tried to install a free app today whilst not at home but I couldn't because of this 2 step verification (i.e. because I was not with my MacBook Air). Does anyone have a solution for this or do I have to instal apps when I have all of my devices on me

You only need one device as long as that device is on the trusted list. So, add whatever device you were trying to install the app on to the trusted lis.

What happens in a situation where I need to find my phone, but can't login to iCloud on a browser because it requires my phone for two-factor? When I've had two-factor remember my browser, it's forgotten the browser after a certain period of time. This is a serious flaw in thinking.

You can access Find My iPhone without the 2FA code.

Why do you only have one trusted device or number? That's a bad idea. See this article for information on how to set up other phone numbers as trusted numbers:

Yea this *****. I lost my phone when I was out at the mall and used my friends phone to sign into icloud but i needed this 2 step verification crap so it won't let me sign in, thus me not being able to find my stolen iphone. I'm beyond angry at this, especially when i never signed up for it in the first place.

You do not need the 2FA code to log into Find My iPhone if you do it from a computer by going to www.icloud.com

I'm having similar issues which I think is really useless in the first place. How can we buy such expensive device and not have control over which functionality to enable? I broke my phone and couldn't get it fix before travelling abroad, upon arriving I acquired another phone and new sim. Now in other for me to retrieve some pictures I took with the old Iphone from the cloud for my work, I have to insert the old sim into the new phone and enable roaming to receive the two factor code just to access the the cloud. Now I've been billed for activating roaming just to access my own cloud and I've told by apple that I can't turn it off.

How can this be innovation in technological space. Apple, its clear to me you are really discouraging people from using your product. Next month I will gladly make that switch to another brand for my own sanity.

Totally agree with you, I can't use anything on my Mac Book Pro running 10.9.5 because I was duped into accepting it on a new phone running ios11. No my lap top can't run Facetime, my phone keep pinging me an authetication code but my computer doesn't have a space to enter them Good by Facetime with my Family on my Lap top.

Couldn't agree with your comments more I think Apple are dragging us all by a nose ring.

£1000's later, I phones, I pads, Lap tops and my whole system felled by a new blooming phone!!!

I am beyond incadesent with rage. I can use anything without this retched verication process, I dont have my phone on all the time, I dont want to have my phone with me to be able to log into this support "Need a verification code" can't log into Facetime on my Mavericks 10.9.5 (I dont like upgrades!!!) this is utterly ridiculous. I want to turn it off, it has made every action more frustrating and tedious. Why should I have to upgrade my system just because I was duped into adding this from a new phone. APPLE we have the right to decide. This needs urgent urgent attention

I'm so irritated. My macbook was stolen and I use android for phone and tablet and I can't get my iCloud email because I can't turn on 2fa with my non iOS devices. This is ridiculous and will guarantee I apple loses a loyal 20 year customer. I should be able to set up my iCloud email on any device and change settings from any connected device. F@$%&!!!!!

So, I guess that means you didn't set up your Android phone as a trusted number? Or set up some other number (landline, spouse's phone) as a trusted number? You'll need to request account recovery:

And, once you've done that, be sure to set up some trusted numbers.

Thanks Idreas. I really do appreciate the time you and others take to give help on this forum. Unfortunately I did try to put a thread on it, but I was told:

“We’ve removed your post Two factor authentication is a security problembecause it contained either feedback or a feature request that was not constructive”

All I had said is that all the old advice on the Apple two factor authentication (as with the thread above which is the one that tops google on searches) is no longer valid because Apple went and changed the rules and now we can’t opt out of this forsaken two factor nightmare.

Apparently one is not allowed to put a new thread on things if it’s not 100% positive, even if it’s accurate and existing ones re out of date. Amusing and sad. But it reflects the way I increasingly feel about their products. Still love them, but they’re making me harder and harder for me to do so..

Thanks again anyway.
