I have the following error: "You may not install this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition" I am trying to install High Sierra. Just replaced my hard drive, installed OS X 10.8.5 no issues. looking to bring everything up to date and it's giving me this error.. any insight would be appreciated!

First I would go back to >AppStore an see if it presents you with a Firmware update.
2012 is quit capable of running the High Sierra
I have this problem too. I have a MacPro. I currently have macOS Sierra 10.12.6 (MacPro Late 2013). 64G of Memory and plenty of disk storage (300G+). My graphics is AMD FirePro D300 2048. Any suggestions?
