airpod alerts are too loud

My workplace is as quiet as a library, so I listen to my airpods on a pretty low volume. But if I receive a phone call, the alert announcing the call seems to be at full volume. It scares me half to death every time and hurts my ears. How do you turn down the airpod alert volume?
