I am trying to set up icloud email on my PC using a windows email client (have actually tried two different clients). I can receive mail but I cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not respond. All settings are as they apparently should be. I have 2-factor authentication enabled and am using an app-specific password. Any ideas as to what I can try? I am pretty sure this is an icloud issue and not a windows client issue.
If you can receive but not send, your credentials are correct. They are the same for send and receive. What is unique is the name and configuration of the outbound/SMTP server.

Thanks. Yes, I did see those instructions and have them set exactly - to no avail. I get a message that says:
[SMTP] An attempt to connect to XXX@mac.com failed. This could be caused by temporary server unavailability or incorrect settings.
I have also tried dropping the @mac.com but that doesn't help.
More on this. I have now tried 3 different Windows email clients and none can connect to the SMTP server. Then I downloaded Thunderbird and connected with no problem. Whatever that means...
