Join track selection has disappeared

I rip audiobooks from CD and until today, I could select all the tracks on a disk and "join" them so they are one track in my library. For some reason, today that selection has disappeared from the drop down in iTunes. Anybody know what might have been corrupted and how I can fix it? Thanks.

The Join CD tracks option only appears if the CD is sorted on the left-most column of numbers in ascending order and two or more consecutive tracks are selected.

Note it must actually be that left column, not track number or album by artist, or another column which could give the same order, but not enable the option.
