Sounds cuts out during a call

The sound cuts out on my iPhone X about fifteen minutes into any phone call. I don't think it's a carrier problem, because the microphone continues to work - the person on the other end of the line can hear me - but, I cannot hear them. I have iOS 11.4.1 and have reset the phone, but it didn't help.

Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If you can‘t hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound isn‘t clear on your iPhone

Check whether this happens on both speakerphone and the regular phone earpiece. Also try a plugin headset and Bluetooth if you have the gadgets available. These tests should give you a full picture of the problem when you (link) Contact Apple Support and arrange to get your phone inspected and serviced.
